GH Fan Club Weekend:
Sarah Brown!

By: Dawn
When I
received the list of events we would be attending, and noted that
Sarah Brown's event was initially not among them, I pouted. I
begged. I threatened (offered?) to throw myself in front of a bus. I
really wanted to meet this woman! Thanks to the wonderfully
accommodating Tara, Sarah's assistant web master, I was able to hold
court with Ms. Brown and a roomful of her dearest fans.
I walked in and was appropriately humbled that a seat was
reserved for me in the front row. I present a gift bag of oh-thank
you's and appreciation to Tara, The One Who Made This Possible. The
room was small, yet inviting, and because of this, it made the event
much more intimate. Each fan that attended was given a personally
autographed photo of Sarah, written especially to them. Hey, where's
mine? Just kidding. The excited buzz in the room was palatable and
Sarah suddenly just kind of nonchalantly strolled in! No big to-do,
no announcement, no introduction. Just Sarah and us! She admitted
that she was very nervous about hosting her first event and wasn't
really sure how to go about it, but from where I was sitting, she
was bopping along just fine. She was outgoing, funny and friendly -
and so close that I could've easily reached out and pulled off her
boots, which I didn't do, in case you were wondering. The fans
present were made to feel so comfortable that many of them just made
comments out loud to Sarah, to which she very graciously replied in
her hilarious way. So many people know her and became fans of hers
because of her turn as Carly and after a while, even Sarah was
getting her Carly's and Claudia's mixed up! But it was all in good
fun. And a few small surprises: The lovely locks we see on Claudia
are not Sarah's! The show's hair department puts extensions on her.
She told us funny stories about her daughter Jordan and also made
mention of John Mayer's engagement to Jennifer Aniston - while
jokingly making a stabbing motion. Sarah's love for Mayer is well
known to her fans.
Sarah's contract with GH ends in
January and she mentioned her enormous interest in more behind the
scenes type of work, like editing. She very much wants to get
involved with music, more specifically, making music videos. "I can
not sing," she laughed, over and over. By this time, her darling
onscreen brother, Brandon Barash (Johnny) has casually waltzed in,
obviously not realizing the effect he's having on a room full of
already swooning fans. The rapport between Sarah and Brandon is so
evident that it really makes you wish that their characters were not
related. They clearly enjoy working together and Sarah is very
excited about the Russian mob story, which is now being touched upon
on the air. At one point during the event, Sarah was told to pipe
down as we could all be heard at the event being held upstairs
(Megan Ward's), which I really find hard to believe, but that's what
was said. Sarah did say in all honesty that she and Megan really are
friends and get along very well - but some of Ward's fans are not
quite so friendly. Sarah's answer to this was a hearty and giggling,
"Get a life!" I had to resist the urge to drop to the floor, start
bowing, and shouting, "We're not worthy, we're not worthy!" She is
right of course. What happens on screen has nothing to do with real
life. The fans are also very interested in a possible pairing of
Claudia and Nikolas, which was greeted with enthusiastic applause.
Fans did ask about the highly rumored marriage of convenience and
I'll be honest, I don't recall hearing actual names involved but I
may have missed it.
It's time
for Sarah to meet her fans and pose for pictures and that means I
have to make an exit. Our golden rule is that the events are for you
fans, and the press simply have to wait their turn. I head back to
my hotel room, all smiles, until I realize that I forgot to make an
attempt to lasso Sarah for an interview. When you've just been given
a new set of business cards, I guess you kind of forget you have
them? But again, I do want to thank Tara again for allowing me to
come to Sarah's event. I did have an arsenal of bribes on standby
just in case. No I'm not kidding. I love Sarah. I confess, I
confess. But I have to shake myself out of this daze with her name
on it and get some sleep because early the next day is a date with
those precious Cheetwood boys!
