GH Fan Club Weekend: The Brothers Cheetwood!

By: Dawn

Yawn, stretch. It's time to get up already! After staying up until a ridiculous hour of the morning gossiping with my new pal Kelli, I quickly hoof it over to the hotel room of the other Soaptown staffers - only to find them in various states of still-in-jammies! I guess I'll be taking on these handsome Cheetwood fellas by myself? Hey, more for me, yes? I make my way over to the event and park myself at a table with a good vantage point. I have my sign, "Will grovel for food," and wonder if it's possible to get an ice cold Dr. Pepper through an IV. A sympathetic waiter brings me a plate of breakfast chow, which I heartily wolf down, as I wait for the main attraction - make that two main attractions!

When you get two brothers together, you KNOW there are going to be funny stories galore, especially from the "I loved picking on my little brother" files. During the event, Dirk's lovely wife and precious baby daughter were present and the darling child occasionally chimed in with her comments and coos of approval. The guys tell us about the hilarious trick that Derk played on Drew when Drew was a mere moppet of ten, complete with creepy "Children of the Corn" sound effects, courtesy of Derk. Apparently that film shook up little Drew and Derk could not resist the urge to use that fear to his advantage. Let's play hide and seek in this corn field that is adjacent to our family abode. Let's hide in the corn and deliver the scary whisper, "Drew... Drew..." and scare the living daylights out of the poor child. It sounds like we should be slapping Derk around for frightening his brother like that, but the way they both told the story was so hysterically funny that you could almost picture the entire incident. And their cousin, Tyler Christopher, didn't walked away unscathed either. It seems that Tyler once had the ultimate hunk of junk car, one that made sharp left turns on it's own, and Tyler once loaned this car to Derk - without mentioning that hard pull to the left. We're talking very hard, as Derk found out when he made the mistake of letting go of the steering wheel and ended up in a full 360 degree spin. Fans are making notes of this Tyler tidbit, giddy with the possibility of giving him good natured hell about it later. Derk also admitted that the possibility of him, his brother and his cousin all ending up on the same show never occurred to him but it's so great that it turned out that way.

Both guys mention that they will be appearing on screen very soon and the subject of the "Mrs. Robinson" scene is brought up. Derk confessed to being nervous about taping the mass make-out session between Max and Diane, especially when Carolyn Hennesy sauntered by on the set and announced, "So we're making out today, huh Big Boy?" in her completely Carolyn way. Derk is wondering, should I slip her the tongue, and other assorted actor perplexities that fit the situation. He is telling us that while he was probably about ready to bolt for the nearest exit out of sheer nervousness, Carolyn was behind a camera applying liberal amounts of cinnamon lip gloss, which Dirk admitted tasted pretty good. Fans are enjoying Max and Diane but when asked who else is his favorite GH couple, Derk replied, "Liason!" much to the appreciation of the audience.

Content and purring, I realize it's time for me to bounce over to the Scrubs event which is next on the agenda, so I didn't see Tyler at this event but our photographers did, I did catch him later on. I also realized that my fellow Soaptowner's might have very well gone straight back to bed!
