GH Fan Club Weekend:
The Main Luncheon!

Join me on my adventures in "Port Chuckles!"
By: Dawn
I do
want to mention that shortly after my arrival in sunny Burbank on
Friday, I get a phone call. "We're with Greg (Vaughan; Lucky) and Kelly
(Monaco; Sam) - come on by." So I hurry my frazzled and severely
jet-lagged self over there and catch things just as they were
wrapping up. I didn't get to chat with Greg but had a wonderful
conversation with Kelly. She is the type of person you really want to find
yourself sitting next to at the bar, just kind of shooting the
breeze. She's very friendly and had some funny things to say. She
mentioned her photo shoot in LA Bride magazine - just a photo shoot,
kids. No wedding for Kelly, who said, "An LA Bride...
something I will never be!" She likes her relationship with her
"rock," Mike, just the way it is, and since they have been together
for seventeen years, obviously they have found their own kind of
bliss!
The Green Room

The next
day is the big one, the Main Luncheon, and we are armed to the teeth
with questions and cameras poised. I admit, Boss Lady was a little
concerned that I wouldn't just jump right in and start yapping with
the actors while in the green room but I think I held my own. My
last fan event was Days in 2005 and I had to be bribed, plied with
alcohol and speared with a cattle prod to work up the nerve to
actually do my job. My first victim (giggle, giggle) was Derk Cheetwood (Max) and the proud papa could not stop gushing
about
his six month old daughter. The little beauty was actually present
at his event later on in the weekend - can you
say "stealing
hearts?" Next up is John Ingle (my "Cuddles") who sadly tells me
that he wishes the Quartermaines were on the show more often, so if
you want to see Q's, start writing those letters! I talked to a lot
of people so some of these fine encounters may not be in the order
in which they happened, but you probably don't care about that,
right? Just start dishing girl, just start
dishing. Okay, so I'm
having a very nice conversation with Bruce Weitz (Anthony) who asks
me, "So what is this like?" Well, darling... I'll be honest with
you. The fans are very enthusiastic - and LOUD. I tell him that
Anthony still takes me by
surprise and is actually very well
written. He was very appreciative and incredibly friendly, and then
asked, "Do I have time for a cigarette?" Oh, tempting. Very
tempting, since I smoke as well. We ran into each other a few more
times while in the green room and I'm happy to report that the fan
reaction to him was huge. He brought a considerably hefty stack of
photos to sign for the fans - and went through every last one of
them! I then talk to Stephen Macht (Trevor), who not only speaks to
you in character while discussing Trevor, but has the
charming habit
of holding your hand or arm while in conversation with you. He was
acting so Trevor-like at one point that I feared people would think
he and I were actually getting ready to scrap! I will say that
Stephen puts a lot of thought into his character and the actions of
the character. He's amazingly personable and even
introduced me to his wife. Gotta love him! I finally get an audience
with Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) and we talk about what all
well-trained Red Sox
fans talk about - The Red Sox! I tell him that Cask 'n Flagon, the
bar across the street from Fenway Park, is a must-see, so Bradford,
if you're reading this, I want a full report on my desk the next
time you're in Boston. Besides, Bradford simply must hear my strange
but true World Series/"Chosen One" story.
Things
are still moving along swiftly in the green room so off I go with my
own brand of interrogation. I speak to Sonya Eddy (Epiphany) about
music, another favorite topic of mine. We're both old school
R&B/Motown kind of girls and she feels that music today is far more
commercialized than it used to be. "You could tell who the producer
or bass player, etc.
was just by listening to the track," she noted. I only had time for
a "Hi, how ya doing? I'm that chick from Soaptown, etc.," with Laura Wright (Carly) and Julie Marie Berman
(Lulu), but I did chat with Kirsten Storms (Maxie) and mentioned how
shocked the fans were when she was not nominated for an Emmy this
past year. They were furious, I tell her. Kirsten says that maybe
the Emmys are getting too political and she actually had more fun
presenting on stage with Bradford and Jason Cook (Matt). Very sweet
girl and boy is she tiny! Speaking of tiny, I mosey up to Claire
Coffee (Nadine) who gleefully admitted to pawing through her entire script
even when she's not taping because she's dying to know what happens
next
on the show. By this time, our MC John Ingle is telling the
actors to line up. I did get a few more conversations in here and
there but I say we get on with the big show!
The Main Luncheon
We're
holding up the wall on one side of the room like all good escorts do and
taking in all the action. Every actor present was greeted with loud
applause, I'm happy to report. The fan awards are presented and
while you all probably already know the winners, here they are
again: Best Actor and Actress went to Tyler Christopher (Nikolas)
and Laura Wright. Supporting Actor and Actress was Greg Vaughan and
a still-MIA Becky Herbst (Elizabeth). Dylan Cash (ex-Michael) and
Julie Berman were voted Best Younger Actor and Actress. Best Couple
was Scrubs (Robin and Patrick) and best character was Spinelli. And
once again, Best Official Website was awarded to Sheri for her
wonderful Tyler
Christopher site. The Q&A begins and an incredibly hilarious Carolyn Hennesy (Diane) is amongst the crowd with a microphone so we can all
hear the undoubtedly funny questions that were sure to
come. "I'll
sign anything you want to expose," Brandon Barash (Johnny)
good-naturedly tells one fan. "Marry me, Bradford!" another fan
yells and Bradford was like, "It's on!" I confess, I'm drawing a
blank on other questions that were asked but soon it was time to get
the actors to their tables and let the games begin.
I'm
still looking around for Becky Herbst because I'm supposed to be her
security escort. Uh, what do I do if the actor I was assigned to
doesn't show up? Hold that thought, they tell me, she may still turn
up. So I'm standing like a sentry in front of her table until
finally some of her fan club people come up and end the suspense.
Becky was feeling under the weather and would not be in attendance.
So what do I do now? How about Ron Hale (Mike)? Okay, that has the
potential to be a whole lot of fun! Oh yes, I...... Ron, where are you going?!
Smoke break, smoke break. Take me with you? I did join him a few
times but Ron is not one to sit at a table and have the fans come to
him. He prefers to mingle in the crowd and meet the fans that way.
Some fans even asked me if
they should approach him in the "smoking lounge" and I told them
heck yes! Ron loves meeting his fans and I loved being his escort -
when I could keep tabs on him, that is. I jokingly request a leash,
or at least a bell I can tie around his neck. But since our dear
Mr. Hale is well-versed in this drill, I take the opportunity to chat up
other people. Megan Ward (Kate) is also at Ron's table and is even
more beautiful in person. Of course, I exchange business cards with
her publicist, Kristi, and hope to snag Ms. Ward for a one on one
very soon. I say hello to Claire Coffee again and then I corner Kin Shriner (Scott). It took the event people a few beats to realize
that the blonde girl standing next to Kin at his table was Carly
Schroeder (ex-Serena), who has grown into a breathtakingly lovely
young woman. And of course, no day would be complete without getting
a snuggle in with Brandon Barash. Steve Burton (Jason) was a little
late and Maurice Bernard (Sonny, who had his own event a short time
later) was very late - both were doing a promo. And both lines
formed in a big hurry and grew to monstrous proportions in record
time. Maurice was whisked away fairly quickly however, and rushed right past
me outside on his way to his event. Clearly in his way, I offer my
humble apologies: "Oh I'm sorry Mo!" Yes, I called him Mo.
I'm kind
of walking around at this point, checking on other people hard at
work. Our Lori was assigned to Bruce Weitz and he is happily smiling
and chatting away. I'm wondering if the poor man was jonesing for a smoke because his line was non-stop, as was Stephen Macht's line. I
check in with Laura Wright's escort Becky, who is also our esteemed
photographer, and the call is made: Bring food, we're starving! Boss
Lady arrives bearing gifts, which were promptly wolfed down by both
Becky and the darling and fun-loving Ms. Wright. Laura and Bruce were
two actors who stayed until the bitter end - no wonder Laura was
making food requests by this time, lest she start nibbling on her
own arm. My own hope for food was fading
fast as I was scheduled to attend another event shortly after the
main luncheon. Hold on - did I go eat? Oh yes, I ordered a sandwich
from the Patio Cafe and scarfed it in short order - then it was on
to Sarah Brown's event!
Thank you for a wonderful day. Nobody does it better then Debbie
Morris the GH fan club President. And rightly so! Year after year
she works her tail off to round up all the actors, blocks room so
the fans do not have to travel, and works months and months in
advance to make sure everything is prefect, and it always is. I
couldn't imagine any one else doing it.
