“I am loving being back in
daytime and having a blast on the show,” shares Adrienne Franz, the bubbly star
of Young and the Restless on this warm October day. Her enthusiasm
and joy barely contained,
Ever
since her 2005 departure from Y&R sister show, The Bold and the
Beautiful viewers wondered if we would ever see Frantz and her quirky,
colorful, yet popular character Ambrosia “Amber” Moore grace our television sets
once again. Well last fall that question was answered when once again Frantz
brought Amber back to daytime, determined to make her home in Genoa City rather
than Los Angeles.
One
would think that you would bring the popular character fans associate you with
back to the show of origin right? So why did Frantz choose The Young and the
Restless when B&B producer Bradley Bell has stated he would welcome
her back with open arms? “I know this is something that performers in daytime
typically do not do,” she remarks, “but after having dinner with the execs at
Y&R and listening to the plans they had for Amber, I thought it would be fun
to take this character and play her with a whole bunch of new and different
characters.”
Considering the character had no ties whatsoever to the new show, was that very
fact a concern for the talented actress? “Honestly, I don’t think so,” Franz
reflects. “Amber has always been an island character, even when she was on
The Bold and the Beautiful. At one point Amber did have a family, but she
has always been her own little character and living and surviving on her own
means…. I think by bringing her to a show where she does not really share a
history with anyone you are giving the character more of an opportunity to
interact with other characters she may not otherwise interact or associate
with…besides as an actress it is more fun to be able to work with all the cast
and not just a select few,” she continued. “At least Amber is not related to
anyone and doesn’t have to worry about marrying the child she is a nanny for,”
laughs Frantz (about her character’s colorful past on B&B).
The only
character Amber has any sort of connection with from The Bold and the
Beautiful is the character of Lauren Fenmore, played by Tracey Bregman who
in turn actually brought the character of Lauren to B&B at one point in
time. “You know Tracey and I talked about that when I first started on the
show,” the actress says. “We honestly could not remember what our characters
history was with one another.” The one thing Frantz did remember about her
connection with Bregman’s character Lauren was their victimization at the hands
of psycho nurse, Sheila Carter. It was the nutty nurse that fans thought first
brought Amber to town.
Amber
landed in Genoa City about the time talk began to pick up steam that nutty nurse
Sheila Carter was actually alive, well and could be living in Genoa City. This
led viewers to wonder whether or not Amber and Sheila were in cahoots with one
another to make Lauren’s life absolutely miserable.
“I began
to think that the writers might actually be going in that direction with Amber,”
Frantz confesses with a chuckle. “Honestly though, I am very glad that they did
not connect Amber and Sheila together. Think about it, why would Amber agree to
help Sheila when Sheila also made her life miserable?”
However,
Amber’s time away from Los Angeles and her past shenanigans were revealed thanks
in part to her former mother-in-law Brooke Logan (who made a trip from B&B
to expose her former daughter-in-law) and a little thing called porn, which
Amber starred in during her time in Sin City. But a little thing like porn
wouldn’t keep her from becoming a member of Genoa City’s elite would it? Not if
your name is Ambrosia Moore! Once Amber learned that Jill’s real son was alive,
well and living out there somewhere, she made it her mission to locate him and
live her life rolling in money.
Little
did Amber know that the dashing Aussie, she hired and convinced to play Phillip
Chancellor III, was indeed the real heir to the Chancellor dynasty. “I really
loved playing that storyline. I was like a little sponge and learned so much
from Jess (Walton, Jill) and Jeanne (Cooper, Katherine),” says Frantz. “Those two
are such class acts and are very, very talented. I feel we had such great
chemistry with one another from the very start of this storyline.”
Additionally, there are two things Frantz really enjoyed about this storyline,
particularly the way the writers of Y&R remained true to the character’s
history. “I loved how the writers at Y&R stayed true to Amber and the
fact that she always kind of gravitated towards the older characters, especially
Stephanie Forrester on B&B,” she reveals.
Okay, so
now I’m betting you want to know what the other thing was Frantz really enjoyed
about this storyline. Perhaps it was working with the dashing Daniel Goddard
who played Frantz’s onscreen hubby, Phillip Chancellor III, aka Cane. Judging
by the laughter coming through the other end of the phone, you can bet that
Frantz’s answer was, “Yes, a resounding Yes. I thoroughly enjoyed working
opposite Daniel. We have amazing chemistry together and really get into our
scenes with one another….it is hard to find people like that on different
levels.”
Too bad
Cane and Amber have parted ways and are looking to move on with others. But
Adrianne doesn’t think its totally over either. “I think Cane and Amber have
something very special,” says Frantz. “There is something with Cane and
Amber…an undying love (Frantz calls it)….I really do think that these two
characters love each other but they both know how messed up it has all been.”
So could Amber and Cane end up making another trip down the aisle at some point
in the future? “I could definitely see Cane and Amber getting back together in
the future,” hints Frantz with a laugh. But in the meantime, perhaps one of
Genoa City’s recent bachelors may try to catch Amber’s eye.
Ever
since her debut on the show, Amber (and Frantz) has found a kindred soul in
Daniel Romalotti (and fellow co-star Michael Grazidei). “It is nice to see the
show exploring a friendship between Amber and Daniel,” Frantz says. “Daniel is
Amber’s best friend and confidante and they have not even done anything,” she
continues with a laugh. From their interactions and shenanigans, it is obvious
that Amber and Daniel are having fun with one another…but what about the actors
and their co-stars? You betcha……
“I love
working with Michael and we have been friends in real life prior to my coming on
the show,” she says. “Michael, Greg (Rikkart, Kevin) and I always have so much
fun when we get to interact with one another….we call ourselves the 3 stooges,”
Frantz says with a laugh.
You know
what they say, the best romances start when lovers are friends first. Might
that be the case for Daniel and Amber? “Hmmmm,” Frantz says slyly.
Or
perhaps another man other than Cane and Daniel is waiting in the wings, a man by
the name of Kevin Fisher? Hmmm just think of all the havoc Amber and Kevin
could wreak throughout Genoa City if these two ended up as an item. “You never
know,” she says. “That’s the beauty about being on a show where your character
is not tied to anyone the possibilities are endless.”
And the
possibilities are endless for Frantz, outside of daytime as well. “My mom and I
laugh because I knew I wanted to sing and act at a very young age,” says
Frantz. “At the age of two I told her I was going to be Barbara Streisand,” she
continues with a laugh.

It was
that love for acting, singing and just plain entertaining audiences that allowed
Frantz to leave Marymount College in the middle of her freshman year to take the
role of Tiffany on NBC’s now defunct sudser, Sunset Beach. It was this
inaugural role that introduced daytime viewers to the Michigan native.
But her
other passion kept knocking, and in 2005 Frantz hung up her colorful “Ambrosia”
wardrobe, packed up her belongings, said good bye to her “family” on The Bold
and the Beautiful and headed to the Big Apple to concentrate on her other
love, her music. “My music and my desire to make this album is what ultimately
led to my decision to leave B&B in 2005,” Frantz says. “I wanted to go to
the Big Apple to focus on my music….I knew if I wanted this album to sound the
way I had in my mind that I needed to leave Los Angeles and go somewhere, where
I would have no distractions and no other responsibilities pulling at me.”
And
Anomaly was born. “We originally released the songs from the album on ITUNES to see what kind of response we would initially receive from the
listening audience,” she says. Did this multi-talented performer get the
response she was looking for? “Oh yes,” the songstress says. “It was absolutely
amazing. We went backed, tweaked some things, allowed me to promote it properly
and made the decision to release the album this fall.”
Anomaly, which was
produced by Wrong Records and recorded by Frantz at The Shed in New York City is
scheduled to for a world wide store release this Tuesday, October 30th.
“Just in time for the holidays,” notes Frantz with a chuckle.
So are
the songs on Anomaly just as colorful as Frantz’s daytime character
Amber? “Every single song the listeners will hear are my own creations and are
from certain times in my life where I was at that particular time,” she says.
“You know the songs about the break ups, and the crushes on the taken boys, the
songs everyone knows and relates to, the songs that speak the truths; it is
definitely bits and pieces of my life.”
One song
that listeners will hear hits very close to Frantz’s heart. “There is a song on
the album called Seren and it was written for my goddaughter,” she says softly
regarding the special relationship and story she shares with this little girl. “I was in New York writing songs and flying back and forth between The Big Apple
and Los Angeles while she was waiting to make her debut into the world.” She
continues, “I was in San Diego when she arrived and was on my way back to New
York when I received a phone call that Seren might not make it, and that she was
in NICU. I felt so totally helpless for one of the first times in my life. I
was completely on the other side of the United States and there was nothing I
could do, so I started writing. I had come up with the music earlier in the day
and I did not know where it was going to go to. S o I just started writing and
writing and writing. I wrote a letter to my goddaughter on everything I wanted
her to know in life, then it just turned itself into a song, it is everything I
want her to know and that I will always be there for her no matter what.”
So with
the buzz that Anomaly is receiving, is there any chance Frantz will
record a second album? “Oh there will definitely be a second album,” Frantz says
excitedly. And perhaps an album tour, which was the whispers that made their
way around the Internet back in the spring about Frantz’s departure from Y&R?
“Those whispers about me leaving for an album tour were true, but unfortunately
did not happen at that particular time,” reveals Frantz. “I am in the process
of talking with Y&R to see what can be worked out to accommodate a tour
and all the promotional appearances that surround an album release,” she says.
Those
album promotional tours will also have to coincide with another event Frantz
will participate in, walking the red carpet. “I play the role of Maddy in the
upcoming teen horror flick Hack and the role of EB in the dramatic comedy
Angst,” shares Frantz.
Should
Amber ride off into the sunset once again, Frantz and viewers know that she will
grace our screens again one day. “If I do have to leave the show, I know that
I’ve been blessed with the opportunities to work on two great shows like B&B
and Y&R and with such outstanding cast members that call these shows
home.”
“Besides, Amber is and always will be the only character for me.”
