Anyone who has ever been (or is currently) in love definitely knows what a
battle the game of love can be. While it certainly can provide two people with
lots of laughs, giddy feelings and nights of passion, it can also provide two
people with lots of heart ache and conflict, especially when the one you love
decides to take a roll in the hay with another…….I know first hand how that
definitely feels.
And this week sugary
sweet Lily Winters discovers what it feels like when she finds out about her
love Cane’s roll in the hay (albeit a drunken roll in the hay) with her arch
enemy, Chloe. As usual, another soap couple torn apart by conflict….but
when has any couple in daytime EVER lived happily ever after?
Unless you’ve lived under
a rock for the last few months, then you know that Cane and Lily have certainly
had their shares of up’s and down’s in their lives. Both ended their marriages
to dishonest spouses, dated others and found love with one another.
But the problems were not
far off on the horizon. Lily won the “Face of Jabot” contest and hurricane
Chloe entered her life. As we know Lily constantly found herself on the
receiving end of Chloe’s remarks and snide comments about her weight, her
schedule, and whether or not she really wanted to be the “Face of Jabot.”
What was being set up as
a potential eating disorder storyline with Christel Khalil at the helm, seems to
have developed more into a love triangle between Lily/Cane/Chloe, which is a
shame. By showcasing Lily struggling with an eating disorder and negative body
image
issues, Y&R could’ve reached thousands of teens and young adults,
who struggle with these issues (and where they fit in) on a daily basis. Bell
and Sheffer could’ve even taken this storyline one step further, by showcasing
Lily’s fears, doubts and negative image in relation to her “late” mother
Drucilla. Longtime Y&R viewers remember that Drucilla was also a model
for Jabot at one point in time.
Aww yes, a gripping,
emotional and educational storyline for the summer……..so why are we now getting
a potential love triangle set up between Lily/Cane/Chloe?
From the moment Chloe
arrived in town and Cane landed in her sights, viewers knew that a potential
pairing or feud was not too far off. What we did not expect was that Chloe
would end up with a “bun in the oven,” or at least claims she does.
I was thrilled when Liz
Hendrickson returned to daytime, and the role of Chloe is DEFINITELY different
than what daytime viewers experienced when she played the roles of Frankie and
Maggie on the alphabet network’s All My Children. And this is one viewer
who is liking what she is seeing.
Yes it’s true, I am not a
big fan of the Lily and Cane pairing and while I am glad to see these two have
some more conflict in their relationship (and seeing whether or not they will
survive hurricane Chloe) I would’ve rather seen Amber intertwined in this
storyline, rather than Chloe.
But I guess, I will just
have to deal with the cards as they have fallen and see what Bell and Sheffer
have in store for the viewers with this impending triangle. Who knows they
could give us some twists and turns that we never saw coming.
Could Cane actually fall
in love with Chloe as they get to know each other and prepare for the birth of
their child? They say that bonding can occur between people during the birth
of a child.
Or maybe Sheffer and Bell
have something planned for Chloe? Does Chloe have some undiagnosed or not yet
revealed condition that makes carrying a child to full term detrimental to her
life and the life of her unborn child? What if she carries the baby to term,
but has complications during delivery.
She could make amends and
apologize to Lily for the way she has treated her, gives Lily and Cane her
blessing and ask Lily to raise the child with Cane as if it was her
own?
But since Hendrickson
just inked a long term deal with the show (sorry AMC and BAM fans), something
tells me that Chloe may just be sticking around Genoa City to cause Lily some
grief for quite some time. And could Chloe enlist the help of Cane’s former
wife, Amber Moore? Something tells me that the friendship that is developing
between these two (as they work at Restless Style) is one that will wreck havoc
in Genoa City for some time to come.
But then again, who knows
Amber may become an ally for Lily and help her get Chloe and her child out of
town and out of Cane’s life for good. Anyway which way it is written, this
storyline has the potential of being quite interesting.
Besides watching her love
prepare for the birth of his child with another woman, might just be the
catalyst that drives Lily over the edge and have the writers move full steam
ahead with an eating disorder storyline on the show.
Funny, Chloe’s having
Cane’s baby and it is not a wonderful way for her to say she loves him.

DIVA
DISH
Hello my darlings, I hope
that you are enjoying the hot and sticky summer days wherever you are. The diva
apologizes for this column being tardy, she has faced some MAJOR computer
problems this last week. But all problems are solved and the diva is back and
stronger than ever.
News on the Y&R front is
that Liz Hendrickson (Chloe) has inked a long term deal as Chloe with the show. I know for a fact that Hendrickson loves the West Coast and was VERY excited
when she won the role of the vixenish fashionista on daytime’s number one show.
While she looks back on
her AMC days with fond memories, the ship seems to have sailed on any return of
Hendrickson and her character of Maggie coming back to Pine Valley. But hey
who knows in daytime right?
Now let’s get on with the
dish:
“I’d love to see Nina
Webster Chancellor (Tricia Cast) return, she was great! Unfortunately, they
really messed with the continuity on this one. First, the original Phillip was
born long before Billy. In fact, a young adult Phillip (played by Thom Bierdz)
died before Billy was even born or thought about. Phillip was SORAS’d back in
the 80’s, which makes Jill the mother of son’s a generation apart. Phillip’s
son was born before Billy and even before Lily. Cane is supposed to be the same
age as Phillip and the boyfriend of Lily. So he should be old enough to be
her father, but instead they de-SORAS’d him to being 30 years old and in a
romance with a 21 year old. All of this confusion is easy to ignore, unless
certain cast members are brought back. That being said, it could be done, but it
would really highlight the age difference issue, which in turn could be some
good drama.” Reader Carol.
“I despise both Gloria
and Jill. I hope Nikki and Katherine kick them both out of the business. Cane
and Katherine can run Chancellor Enterprises, while Jack, Nikki and Ashley could
run Jabot.” Reader Evelyn
“I love the idea of Jill
vs. Kay, especially if we add Nikki into the mix. I don’t want Gloria to be
included however. That would redeem Gloria and she is WAY beyond redemption.”
Reader BJ.
“Viewers “love” to hate
Gloria, what about those of us that just plain hate the character. I admit, at
times she can be fun . . . .but most of the time I just want her gone. Yet, I
cannot help but wonder if Joan Van Ark were still playing the role, if I would
love or at least like Gloria. Judith Chapman’s Gloria just leaves me cold and I
am tired of Y&R showcasing her and her 2 sons all the time. Judith Chapman is a
fine actress, I am just tired of the Gloria show.” Reader Beatrice.
“I am a Phyllis fan who
likes the new Phyllis. I’m okay with Phyllis going after people like Brad, Dru
and even Sharon. I like Amber and I look at her as a young Phyllis without the
homicidal tendencies. My problem with Phyllis going after Amber and Daniel’s
relationship is that she is going to boohoo to everyone and expect forgiveness
when it blows up in her face. When times are good Phyllis is comfortable, she
loves to climb on her soap box teetering above everyone else and look down on
people like Amber in this case. The truth will come out like it always does and
she is going to cry to Daniel and Nicholas like she always does.” Reader
Dannada.
