James Scott

Dashing and Debonair

Interview By Amanda

Come on in and pull up a chair and enjoy my EXCLUSIVE one on one interview with the dashing and debonair, James Scott who plays the role of Ethan Cambias Ramsey on the alphabet network’s hit daytime drama All My Children.

Those dark eyes….that dark hair…that accent. All women dream of having that tall dark and handsome man swoop into their lives, romance them and then ride off into the sunset to parts unknown to live happily ever after.

Well approximately 7 months ago, All My Children and the alphabet network certainly fulfilled every woman’s dream, when they cast the handsome James Scott in the role of Ethan Cambias Ramsey.

From the moment he debuted, it was obvious to fans that this British heartthrob would certainly find his niche among the talented cast, and finding his niche he has.  Every time he is on screen you can certainly tell that Scott is very happy at his new home.

“It has been the most INCREDIBLE last seven months of my life, it has been such a phenomenal change,” Scott says with enthusiasm. He continues, “To really be working with an outstanding community of actors on such a fantastic show and to be doing something that I am very passionate about on a daily basis is incredible and I am so very lucky to have this opportunity.”

And what an opportunity it is, to be starring opposite in scenes with some of daytime’s hottest performers and not to mention some of this industries veteran actor, such as Thorsten Kaye and Susan Lucci. And that bevy of beauties he works with everyday, well what male wouldn’t enjoy going to work.

One Pine Valley beauty that Scott is definitely making waves with is none other than his onscreen leading lady, Alicia Minshew. From the moment that these two graced the small screen, it was obvious that they shared a definite bout of chemistry.  So much chemistry in fact, those fans have been rooting for a “Kethan” romance and pairing since day one. It certainly appears as if TPTB at Kids have taken notice of this pairing since it appears as if Kendall and Ethan are accumulating a multitude of screen time lately. In fact, a recent edition of ABC Soaps in Depth even voted them as one of the hottest new couples in daytime.

“Alicia is WONDERFUL to work with, she is a combination of tremendous fun, which is very important, a strong actress and she is very, very well prepared,” he says admiringly.  “We have fun on the set together and I think that fun carries over into our scenes with one another.”

So if anything were to happen to Kendall and Ethan and they were no longer the hottest couple in Pine Valley, who would James like to see Ethan paired with.  “Heaven Forbid if something should happen to Kendall and Ethan, I don’t know who his next leading lady would be,” Scott says with a laugh.

“If you look at the all the citizens in Pine Valley, Ethan has not really interacted with many of the other women on the show other than Bianca, and well we all know that that relationship is not going to happen,” he says with a chuckle.  “However, I do see some potential possibly for an Ethan and Greenlee pairing at some point down the road, and the reason I say this is because Greenlee is a very smart woman, and she appears to be a little bit more stable than Kendall is in some ways, but that is only if Kendall and Ethan do not work out.”

And speaking of Bianca, let’s not forget the scenes that Scott shared with fellow co-star Eden Riegel. From their very first scene together, fans had hoped that Ethan would fill the void in Bianca’s life as her male confidante. A confidante she has not really had, since Leo perished in the river a few years back.

Since the arrival of Miranda, fans have seen the relationship between Bianca and Ethan develop and deepen, and in fact it appears as if the show is going in the direction of making Ethan and Bianca confidantes in one another.  “Bianca and Ethan have a very trusting relationship and both care very much about one another, in fact Ethan is somewhat protective of Bianca and now Miranda,” Scott explains.

“In addition, I also think that Ethan enjoys having Bianca as a confidante, Bianca seems to understand what he is going through and generally wants to help him through of all of this, it is a beautiful relationship based strictly on a platonic friendship” he continues.

Now that it appears Ethan’s cousin Miranda is alive and well, here is hoping we shall see more scenes between the two of them, like AMC provided in their New Year’s episode.  “Those scenes were not acting,” he says with a chuckle, “but rather sit a baby on my knee and see what happens.  Scott elaborates, “I LOVE kids and that scene showed me having just a great time with an amazing child.”

James is quick to echo the sentiments of his fellow co-star Alexa Havins when working with the adorable babies. “Everything runs around those babies,” he says with a laugh. “In fact the babies were having such a good day today that the producers choose to move the scenes that were to be filmed this afternoon to this morning, to accommodate the babies who were behaving wonderfully that play Miranda and James,” he whispered.

Of course, Eden Riegel and Alicia Minshew are not the only performers he has shared scenes with. Many fans are talking about Scott’s interactions with fellow co-star and daytime vet, Thorsten Kaye whose character, Zach Slater has been revealed to be Ethan’s biological father.

And from the scenes that aired this week, it appears as if Ethan is none to happy to learn that Zach has lied to him about his true identity all these months. The question everyone is wondering is whether or not Zach should expect a Father’s Day card from his son.

“I honestly do not know what will happen between them,” says Scott. “I do think that at some point, we will see Zach and Ethan form a more father/son type relationship…the most important thing for Ethan right now is to gain the love from his father that he missed throughout his life.”

If you have visited some online message boards, not only are fans talking about the relationship between Zach and Ethan, but also the height difference between Thorsten and James. I asked James if he thought that their height difference might make it hard for fans to believe that Zach and Ethan are father and son.

“Actually, Ethan’s mother is a 7 foot, 2 inch former North American basketball player and that is where he inherited his tall jeans from,” Scott says jokingly. “In all actuality Thorsten is taller than what he appears on screen, and in real life my father is his height, so now I honestly do not think that our height difference makes our relationship unbelievable,” he continues.

In speaking of Ethan’s mother, rumors are swirling that we might actually see her make her way to Pine Valley in the not so distant future. “This is the first that I have heard of this even though I have always thought that the possibility is there and the door is open for her to come to Pine Valley,” he says excitedly.

“I think having the show introduce Ethan’s mother would be absolutely FANTASTIC…I think that Ethan would lose his mind if this happens…honestly the dynamics of this introduction for the character would be absolutely phenomenal,” he says full of enthusiasm.

The other rumor swirling around the net is that Ethan and fellow British hunk Aiden Devane are going to be revealed as being brothers. “This rumor I have heard,” Scott says. “I honestly don’t know how it could be done, if they shared a father then that would mean Zach would have been one busy guy,” he says with a laugh. “Honestly, I guess it could be done, if they shared the same mother, but I don’t know about it...but I will go with what ever way the show decides to write a story for Ethan.”

So how did this dashing brit, end up in America on one of the States top rated daytime dramas. “I actually started out as a model with the Storm agency in England, which is home to such greats as Kate Moss and Elle McPherson,” he reveals. After a brief stint on the UK soap The East Enders, Scott decided to come to America and try his hand at acting.

Then in 2001 I came to the United States and began working with acting coach Ivana Chubbuck, who has trained some of Hollywood’s A-list actors such as Halle Berry, Jim Carrey, Brad Pitt and Matthew Perry (from Friends fame).”

So with all of this training with a top Hollywood coach, why did James choose to go to daytime rather than pursue primetime and film.  “Daytime is the closest thing to a 9 to 5, five day a week job any actor or actress can have,” Scott reveals.  He continues, “I love being here in New York and being part of this outstanding show… I hope to take another year and solidify and delve more into who Ethan is and what makes him tick.”

“Eventually, I would like to do New York theatre, which is some of the greatest theatre, in conjunction with doing All My Children. I do know that a lot of my fellow performers in this field do this and I hope to join those ranks as well,” he says.

Speaking of New York theatre, many of the All My Children cast and various performers in daytime will be performing on February 7th, 2005 at Town Hall in New York City in a 35th Anniversary benefit concert to support Broadway Cares/Equity fights AIDS.

So will soap fans catch a glimpse of this handsome gentleman on stage performing?? “They have asked me to be the person who rings the little triangle bell on a string in the quartet,” he says jokingly. “Yes I will be there doing something, I just don’t know what it is yet,” Scott says honestly.

James Scott a true gentleman with a great sense of humor and amazing acting abilities.  I do think that this is one gentleman that is sure to go far and be very successful in this genre.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank, James’ web mistresses and Fan Club for setting up this interview. Also, a special thank you goes out to James Scott for taking time out of his busy schedule to sit down and give us this EXCLUSIVE one on one interview.
