Lindze Letherman

Beauty Grace. Charm. Talent.  What a delight

It’s obvious that General Hospital’s resident teen Lindze Letherman (Georgie) has a passion for her craft and the role that has catapulted her into soap stardom.  Lindze dishes about General Hospital, Georgie, multitasking and reality coming to daytime!

Ahh yes those teen years. It seems like ages ago for many of us, just like yesterday for others. Do you remember the job you had at 16? Perhaps it was working at the local grocery store as a checkout person, or maybe as an usher at the local movie theater, hoping your friends wouldn’t catch you in your uniform. For 16 year old Lindze Letherman its being one of the teens on the hottest daytime drama on television. Lindze’s already a veteran, having played Georgie Jones for the last two years and once you talk to this very talented young actress you quickly see why fans have grown to love her so much. She’s full of life – witty, charming and unlike so many teens today very well mannered and gracious.

“Ahh thanks,” Lindze says as we discuss the fact that her fan base is widening across the nation, as well as here at Soaptown USA. Even though this young lady has had an extensive career in theatre, film and primetime, General Hospital is her first regular role in daytime.

Any long time GH fan remembers Georgie’s parents, one of the shows super couples of the ‘80’s, Frisco and Felicia Jones, played by real life couple Jack and Kristina Wagner. Papa Jones unfortunately didn’t stick around for long as Jack Wagner went on to huge success in prime time, but he did return long enough to create Georgie.

But has Frisco ever met Georgie? “If he did it was when I was younger and don’t remember it” says Letherman in Georgie mode. “I think the last time Frisco was in town was when Maxie had her heart transplant and he was there to comfort Felicia and well, we all know what happened… Georgie was conceived,” she says with a laugh. “I honestly can say that if Georgie saw her real father walking down the streets of Port Charles today, she would NOT recognize him.”

So any chance that someday soon Frisco could come a knocking’ on Felicia’s door hoping to reunite with his ex-wife and daughters? “You know I don’t know what the writers have in store, BUT that would be a great storyline,” Lindze exclaims enthusiastically. And taking this hypothetical tack further, how would Georgie feel if Frisco all of a sudden showed up wanting to start a father/daughter relationship with her? “I think that Georgie would be excited to finally meet her real father and form a relationship with him,” she says. “But at the same time there is this feeling of betrayal towards Frisco on Georgie’s part… after all he was the one that left her, her sister and their mother and Mac became the only ‘father’ Georgie has ever really known… I think Georgie would want to know why, after all these years, Frisco NOW wants to reunite with his family and form a relationship with her,” the actress continues.

Georgie has already had one reunion with her mother Felicia, as show vet Kristina Wagner returned to reprise her role. I am sooo glad Kristina is back and that the character of Felicia is a focus in Maxie and Georgie’s life once again.

Just imagine what Felicia will think and say when she finds out everything her daughters have been through during her absence from Port Charles. “It was DEFINITELY the girls of GH gone wild with Georgie and Maxie,” says Lindze laughing.  “It will be nice to have Felicia pull the girls back in line when they start getting out of control now and tell them to knock it off,” she continues.

You would think that any teen that’s had their mother and father leave would find themselves in serious therapy dealing with all those issues of abandonment and trust. So what are Georgie’s feelings towards Felicia? “Well” Letherman ponders, “her father has left and then her mother left town, so I think that is why Georgie feels so close to Dillon and wants to be wanted by him… She has that feeling of needing to be wanted by someone.”

And speaking of the dashing Dillon, Letherman and Dillon portrayer, Scott Clifton seem to have a fantastic time with one another both onscreen and off. “Oh my gosh, I have to tell you this freaky story about us,” she says excitedly. “Scott and I are both Scorpios (astrological signs) she continues, and we were born 2 days apart with a 4 year difference. I was supposed to be born on Halloween and he was supposed to be born on November 2nd, but we switched roles,” she says laughing “and I came on November 2nd and he arrived on Halloween, freaky isn’t it,” she says.

Letherman and Clifton’s rapport and chemistry is remarkable for two such young actors but their talent takes the audience to places far beyond their years. Their unforgettable Casablanca scenes aboard the Haunted Star combined romance, adventure and comedy - Georgie entering the floating casino in a long black dress, ready for a romantic evening with Dillon only to be interrupted by fugitives on the run Luke Spencer and Skye Quartermaine, looking for a place to hide from the police was the most entertaining scenes we’d seen on GH in a long time. “Some of the stuff we did in those scenes was sooo cute,” Lindze says excitedly. With all the chemistry these two young performers exude, I told the actress I have a feeling they could very well be on their way to super couple status very soon.  “Oh wow… thank you that is really cool to hear.”

But of course their families could stand in the way of their happiness, especially now that Georgie’s mother Felicia has decided that Justus is the only Q family member worthy of the late Lila’s inheritance. “Well the Quartermaine’s are always going to meddle in other people’s business because they are Quartermaines,” she says with a laugh. “I don’t think the aggression towards Justus winning the inheritance would be targeted at Dillon and Georgie, but hey you never know with those kooky Quartermaines,” she says slyly.

Daytime has always been a staple in educating its viewers on social, political and ethical dilemma’s and issues across the spectrum. Recently, Georgie and Dillon’s “Road trip to Sex,” was recognized by SHINE (Sexual Health In Entertainment) as being one of the storylines out there educating daytime’s teen viewers on the pitfalls of sexual relations at such a young age. “It is kind of funny since Scott and I do this all the time, we forget because ‘we are doing what we love and loving what we do. To be recognized is still surreal to me at least because we are Dillon and Georgie, big whoop, its still a little weird because people are like HEY you’re Dillon and Georgie.. Don’t get me wrong I am EXTREMELY thrilled that we got recognized for this storyline and the education that we are sharing with the viewers, it is joyful and everything but it is still so surreal,” says Letherman.

So the inevitable question on everyone’s mind is what’s in store for Georgie and Dillon? “Ooooo I cannot tell you that,” she says slyly. “But I have read the scripts and there is some upcoming stuff that is FANTASTIC for Dillon and Georgie that we will be filming,” she says without giving away any hints.

Would a teen pregnancy storyline possibly be in Dillon and Georgie’s future? “No”, the actress says emphatically, “but I do think that that would be an awesome storyline for the two of us”. “To have a baby at the age of 16 is an issue that is hard for me to imagine, but it is an issue that is growing” she says.

“Dillon and Georgie are definitely one couple on the show who are not ready to be parents, but I think that with the show exploring a teen pregnancy storyline with these two front and center in it, it would help educate those viewers, especially the teen viewers on everything you would be giving up raising a baby at the age of 16, not to mention the frustration that they must be feeling at times.”

Of course with Felicia being gone, and Mac well being a guy, Georgie has not really had anyone other than her sister Maxie to talk to about sex… but wait, we haven’t seen Maxie in a while. “I don’t know where Robyn has been and I was just getting ready to ask you the same question,” she says with a laugh. “I do miss Robyn a lot and do wish that Maxie was there to give Georgie some big sister advice about having sex and her relationship with Dillon, especially after her experiences with Kyle that just about ruined her life.”

So if Maxie gave Georgie the advice she didn’t want to hear and Georgie and Dillon parted ways, is there anyone else on GH that Lindze would like to see her character paired with? Well I was sworn to secrecy by Miss Letherman and this is one columnist whose lips are sealed, but Lindze did say “this guy is soooooooo good looking and the camera does not do him justice.”

When she’s not entertaining us on GH, or dreaming about the other guy she would like to see Georgie develop a school girl crush on, she’s happily enjoying her free time. Free time what’s that! When Lindze isn’t working she’s doing exactly what all other teens are, studying. “My schedule got so busy that I have ended up having to take classes on line,” she says.

It’s a testament to Letherman’s commitment to all she does that she’s able to maintain straight A’s in classes like Biology, American History, and Geometry while putting in those long hours at GH. “I love them,” she says. Even though at the time of this interview, “I am a week behind due to my working schedule, but my teachers know how hard I work and they are willing to allow me to get caught up,” she says breathing a sigh of relief.

With SoapNet’s  “I Wanna Be a Soap Star” currently airing, with the prize being a 13 week role on GH, I asked Lindze if she could give us any ideas on who her new co-star might be. “OHHH I haven’t seen it yet because I have been soooo busy, but I am definitely going to watch it,” she says with a laugh.

“You know it is cool that reality shows are coming to daytime,” she says excitedly. “It is really interesting because it proves that people are taking an interest in daytime. I mean people have always had an interest in daytime, but this show puts daytime on the map and doing something like this REALLY excites me.”

It’s also exciting for fans of the show who are wagering bets around the water cooler to see who Lindze’s next co-star maybe. “I am interested to see who will win, and if they are male or female,” she says excitedly. Who knows if one of the shows females wins the role, could Georgie be slugging it out over Dillon? “They better not touch MY man,” Letherman says laughing.

Lindze’s been busy doing promotional work so her fans might get the opportunity to know her better. “Soap Opera Digest just did a photo shoot with me, following me around my apartment and cooking with me,” she says. “Also, I did one of the Soapography episodes for SoapNet, where fans will get to see me at home, riding my horses, and learning more about who Lindze Letherman is.”

We already know Lindze is extremely talented, committed to her work, full of fun, a great role model for teens and has a long and successful career ahead of her!

“To all the fans out there, keep watching,” Lindze says eagerly. “Also, thank you for voting me outstanding younger female at this years GH fan club event, I was so happy and shocked when my name was called. Thank you.”

A thank you goes out to Lindze for taking time out of her busy schedule and the construction going on in her home to speak with us here at SoapTown. Also, a big thanks goes out to her friend Poonam for helping us line up this fabulous interview!
