Missing Renee

Renee Goldsberry's New York Fan Event brings down the house!

Reported by: Rhonda Shumsky

Soap fans and non soap fans got up bright and early on Saturday morning June 2nd to meet the beautiful and charisma Renee Elise Goldsberry at the Eastside Marriott in NYC.

Renee mentioned that she had been filming a movie the previous night (A Steven Seagal action flick titled "Marker") and did not want to disappoint her fans. She told the group of fans that she came straight from the set to the fan event.  Renee mentioned that under different circumstances she would have asked some of her OLTL co-stars to join her, but decided to come solo so she could interact and spend quality time with her fans.

Renee walked in to a loud standing ovation which brought tears to her eyes. She seemed totally taken aback by the support and love in the room. The event started with the normal Q & A. The fans were eager to hear about her departure from One Life To Live. She said she>
couldn't really discuss the specifics and although she is sad that she is no longer there, some great opportunities are coming her way and as is always the case in soap land you never know what the future holds and maybe someday she will return.

Some of the questions asked by the fans were if her faith had any factor in her decision to do a role, which she replied that it does. Another fan asked about the state of African-American actresses on TV,  which she answered,  "unless you are supporting the main family you tend to get put on the back burner."  She also spoke about her male co-stars - Michael Easton, David Fumero, Trevor St. John  and Timothy Stickney and how she loved working with them and was sad to say goodbye to these four great guys as well as great actors.

Renee discussed the movie that she is currently filming, which is a total departure from what she has done in the past - an action movie, which she loves doing and her goal is to be a role model any way she can.

She let us in on a bit of gossip which the audience was very interested in hearing and as the room got quiet - she  mentioned she was offered the role of Mimi in Rent on Broadway, but couldn't do it right away because of the movie she is currently filming but it appears like it will happen at a later date. (Soaptown will let you know when it does!)

After the Q & A the fans were treated to a mini concert with Kevin Bents accompany Renee on guitar. She sang 3 songs that were just fabulous and everyone really enjoyed..

Renee is beautiful, intelligent, talented and just one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. Daytime's loss is everyone else's gain!!
