Animals, People, Environment action

On Saturday October 20, Daytime stars came out to help support the animal rescue group called Apeaction (Animals, People, Environment action). Celebs from Passions, Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Young and the Restless all mingled with their fans signing autographs, posing for photos and even bidding on the great selection of auction items. Leslie Charleson from General Hospital won a gift basket of Tyler Christopher items. Jay Johnson of Days won a book and Bryan Dattilo walked away with a penguin photo taken in Antarctica.

The reason behind this fundraiser was to pay back the Apeaction founders , Jill Gasparec and Tamra Sullivan for rescuing a dog now named Seamus. Photographers Jill Johnson and Paul Skipper were sent an e-mail from former Days Of Our Lives star, Jillian Clare’s mom. Jillian is the teen spokesperson for Apeaction. There was a plea for money to have surgery on this three month old puppy that had been dumped on the front lawn of the local animal shelter with a broken leg. This poor puppy sat in the pound for six days with no medical attention. The leg had started to heal wrong and now needed major surgery. Jill and Paul fell in love with the pup, applied for adoption and were willing to take on the responsibility of this puppy in case his leg needed to be amputated which will not be known until he is full grown. Apeaction is in desperate need of funds to help rescue more animals from the pound. It is very costly to get these animals medical attention and pay for boarding or foster homes until forever homes can be found.

All the soap actors were so very supportive of this event and wanted to help out as much as they could. Some even bought their own tickets at the door and donated CD’s they had recorded and gift baskets. The highlight of the day was when Seamus was brought in and the actors were asking if they could have their photos taken with him as if he was some big celebrity. Patrika Darbo emcee’d the event with Kate Linder taking over after her departure. It was a fun day and there is talk of another “Celebs Go Ape” event next year with even more celebrities.
