Taylor Spreitler

Days of Our Lives' newest teen sensation dishes
about the Emmys, Salem, and mama Mia.

At the time I spoke with Taylor Spreitler, it was the morning after the Daytime Emmy awards and she was still on cloud nine about attending her very first ceremony. "It was insane!" she gushes, "I've never experienced anything like that, especially the red carpet. It was a lot of fun! I just wish it hadn't been so hot out!" Afterwards, the young actress headed to the show's gathering to party it up with her cast mates. "It was so funny, everyone was making fun of Darin (Brooks; ex-Max, and winner of Best Younger Actor) because half of his speech got cut out. It was really weird, I guess no one really realized how much time they had or something. There were some people where the mike would just cut out and you couldn't hear the rest of their speech anymore!"

The Hattiesburg, Mississippi born actress just joined the cast of Days of Our Lives earlier this year and has already found herself embroiled in quite a story. Currently Mia is in the dark about the true whereabouts of her baby and Spreitler previews, "I know something about the baby storyline is coming out but I'm not exactly sure what part of it comes out. I want her (Mia) to find out, I think it would be fun to play that out. She'd probably freak out on everybody, especially Nicole! I think it would be a lot of fun." In the romance department, Mia is enjoying the attentions of both Drew, and her baby's father, Chad. "Dylan (Michael Patton; Will) is like one of my best friends, I call him all the time and I'm like, 'Dude, I have the funniest story to tell you.' But I love him. We get along great. It was so funny, last night he walks in and... When he was younger, he had really, really blonde hair, and there's a picture of him in his dressing room, and I always tell him that he looks like Ellen DeGeneres in the picture. So we're at the Emmys and I see him and I run up to him and we're both jumping up and down, so excited to be there and he says, 'Ellen DeGeneres is behind you!' and we both turn around. We're freaking even more and he goes, 'Oh look, it's me!' It was so funny! We were like two little kids in a candy store. We were like, oh my God, there's Dr. Phil. There's Susan Lucci!"

"Everybody was really glad that Bold and the Beautiful won because Brandon Beemer (ex-Shawn) and Kyle Lowder (ex-Brady), they used to be on Days and they're two of the nicest guys ever! I'm glad that they won."

Spreitler got her start in show business after winning a local talent contest at age six. Soon after, other contest wins followed and she headed to New York and found work in print ad modeling. Deciding to give acting a try, Spreitler quickly landed several national commercials as well as a role on "Law & Order: SVU." In a crazy coincidence, Spreitler's roommate in the Big Apple was none other that Shelby Young, who would eventually end up playing opposite her as Kinsey on Days. "I remember she messaged me on Facebook," Spreitler laughs, "And she was like, 'I just wanted you to know that I'm going to be working with you. I booked the role of Kinsey,' and I was like, 'You've got to be kidding me!'  And I met Casey (Deidrick; Chad) before he auditioned for Days. It was weird!" When the role of Mia came along, Spreitler says, "I had an audition for it and I was like, yeah, I want to go. I read for Marnie (Saitta) and she is the best casting director I have ever read with. She gives you something to work with, she doesn't sugar-coat it. She tells you what she likes and what you need to improve on. I got called back into the producers and I was talking to Gary Tomlin and he was kind of making fun of me! I said something about 'Well, when I was little,' and he was like, 'You're still little! You're only like fifteen!' When I was younger...! It was such a fun audition process. I was very blessed to have it and to have it go so smoothly. I was so excited. I screamed a lot!"

"I want to see Mia be with Will and be happy. That teen romance where they're just happy and they're goofy together," she shares. As for her other co-stars, she has several she would like to work with more. "I'd like to work with Galen (Gering; Rafe) and Eric Martsolf (Brady). I love them. I love to work with them. And James Scott (EJ), which I pretty sure I'm working with him a lot in the future, with the baby stuff, so we'll get to work together a lot. But I want to be able to work with everybody on the show! They're all so funny and we all have so much fun. And I think it would be so much fun to work with Lauren Koslow (Kate). I love her!"  But if there is one performer on the show that Spreitler could and does consider a role model, it would be, "Ari, definitely. I think she is an amazing actress!" Spreitler enthuses about co-star Ari Zucker (Nicole). "I saw her last night and I was rubbing her belly and I was like, 'I'm sorry, it just trips me out that you're really pregnant!"

The busy actress still manages to find time to enjoy simple things like hanging out with friends, going to the beach, and, of course, Twitter. "I was so mad last night (at the Emmys) because my pictures were working fine until I got there," she laughs, "I got there and I was trying to post them and my phone was like, 'there's an error on Twitter.' Are you kidding me, now I don't know what to do!" Did Spreitler ever imagine herself holding her own statue? "Oh, I would be the one that would start bawling and not be able to finish my speech. Or I'd be the person who tripped walking up on stage!"

"Keep watching and thank you for the support," she says to the Days audience, "There's a lot of great stuff going on!"
