On Saturday October 9, 2004, fans of Ted King gathered at the Marriott Marquis in New York to spend a couple of hours with the dynamic actor. The event was extremely well attended, everyone was upbeat and eagerly anticipating King’s arrival. While they were waiting many items were on display at the back of the room; pictures, t-shirts, post cards and numerous silent auction items.

Finally the doors opened and in walked this gorgeous man. The room went crazy. King had the biggest smile on his face moving through the crowd greeting people as he took his place at the front of the room. Looking very comfortable and relaxed, the fan favorite began by telling everyone how happy he was to be in New York. He continued by thanking the crowd for doing whatever they had to do to join him and for giving him the opportunity to reach out. He also graciously spoke very highly of the producers, writers and actors on General Hospital.

Next up was a question and answer session. He started off by saying that he wouldn’t be taking off any clothes, much to the disappointment of the largely female crowd!!  Addressing the hot topic of any future story for Lorenzo and Carly, the talented actor said he really liked working with Tamara Braun - it was an easy relationship with lots of give and take. The audience and writers pick up on that, but there are so many characters to write for and they have to do what’s best for the show. It didn’t look like its going in that direction, but you never know.

Ted was then presented with a bumper sticker that read “America needs Carly and Lorenzo “04” along with a letter to the producers, generating a huge round of applause. Other questions dealt with his various acting experiences including Timecop and Sex and the City. He is such a generous person with only glowing things to say about his costars. He also spoke about the differences between Luis and Lorenzo and how interesting it is for him as an actor to play a character that is so complex and not all black or white. He was proud of his input with the writers when he came back to General Hospital as Lorenzo.

Divulging a bit of Lorenzo’s future, Ted shared that Lorenzo will be getting another family member. He didn’t elaborate on what the familial relationship might be, only that Lorenzo’s family would be expanding. He also said he might be getting a new love interest. Asked if there was anyone in the cast he hasn’t worked with but would like to, King said he would love to work with the Quartermaines because there is so much history there. He also really enjoyed working with Tony Geary and Robin Christopher as Luke and Skye. Getting a huge response from the animated crowd, when asked what storyline he’d like for Lorenzo he replied Lorenzo would just take over the whole place! Speaking about the challenges of playing a blind character for a time it’s clear the actor takes his role very seriously. Perhaps King’s most emotional scenes on GH to date were following Sage’s death. He credits Scott Clifton so kindly, saying he is so talented with great instincts and that he’s sure to have a great career.

As the Q&A period came to a close, King really had the chance to get up close and personal with all his fans, visiting each table individually, signing autographs and taking pictures with each person. He truly made everyone feel special, taking the time to converse with each fan. The excitement level in the room was absolutely palatable.  When the handsome actor looked at you with those electric blue eyes it was difficult to think straight!

The afternoon ended with a drawing of winners for the silent auction. Every person in that room was so happy and excited to have spent several hours with such a charming man. Ted King was not only delightful with his fans, but extremely generous in discussing his fellow actors. He couldn’t say enough about their talent and how much he enjoys the opportunity to work with them. I imagine exactly the same could be said of Mr. King. It was a great event and a wonderful showcase for a very warm, friendly man.

We would like to thank Debby O'Connor as usual for another successful production and for allowing Soaptown to be there to report to our readers. And visit Ted's Official Site for more news and information
