“I’ve been waiting for a girl like you,” is the Foreigner song
Ryan could pull out of the hat in order to woo his wife Annie. But
does that song really apply to her?
Ever
since Melissa Claire Egan joined the show and it was announced that
Ryan and Annie would end canoodling and snuggling with each other,
fans wondered what that meant for his ex-wife Greenlee.
After all, the
last time we saw a devastated and destroyed Greenlee Smythe DuPres
Lavery, she had just ripped a new one into her “former” BFF, Kendall
and then hubby Ryan. The next thing we knew, Greenlee hopped on a
plane half way around the world, to sit back, lick her wounds and
attempt to sort through the shattered pieces of her former life.
Now in some
ways I can relate to Greenlee. You see I had a situation very similar
to hers arise in my own personal life. No I did not have a “BFF/half
sister” who agreed to pose as a surrogate for my child and my former
husband was never presumed dead……but my former husband made some
choices that seemingly destroyed our marriage and left me to pick up
the pieces of my shattered life and all of my dreams.
So you see,
this writer can relate to the character of Greenlee on some levels,
except with a few minor differences. First difference, this is a
television show and the second difference, my ex-husband did not move
on so quickly, nor did he attempt to send mixed signals about wanting
me back in his life. Unfortunately, Greenlee’s did.
Enter Ryan
Lavery into the picture my dears. It did not seem as if the ink on his
“divorce” papers from Greenlee was dry, before he was shacking up with
one of Pine Valley’s newest citizens Annie McDermott. From their
initial scenes, fans had an inkling that the writers were moving in
for the kill and that Annie would soon find her self madly in love
with the dashing Lavery.
We all
suspected Kendall to be uneasy with all of this and she was. In fact,
this writer enjoyed the rivalry that was beginning to take shape
between Annie and Kendall over Ryan and little Spike. Ohhh how the
Kane/Montgomery/Lavery/Slater holiday dinners might have been just a
tad bit more entertaining for the fans to watch Kendall and Annie’s
glares and snide remarks across the dinner table.
Instead, Annie
and Kendall called a truce, became co-workers and Kendall even gave
Ryan and Annie her blessing, when they announced their upcoming
nuptials. Ryan and Annie were set to live happily ever after with
their daughter Emma, that is until Greenlee decided that she wanted
the love of her life back in her arms once again.
Well we know
how this story played out, Greenlee returned to town and announced
that her divorce to Ryan was never finalized, therefore making his
marriage to Annie null and void. Annie thought her life was over and
that her dreams had been shattered once again, that was until Ryan
accompanied Greenlee on a plane to the Caribbean for a quickie divorce
and then turned around and married Annie, who had gone to the
Caribbean with them.
However,
Greenlee was not about to give up that easily. The Green butterfly
attempted to pull out all the stops in order to make Ryan remember the
love that they once shared. But Ryan remained true to Annie, that was
until he kissed Greenlee.
They say the
first year of marriage is typically the hardest, but the rate things
are going it does not look like Ryan and Annie may even make it to one
year of marriage. After watching this week’s shows, it appears as if
Annie is ready to throw in the towel on being Mrs. Ryan Lavery and
move on with her life. But as we all know Ryan is not willing to
accept that.
I do hope that
the new writing regime will showcase Annie as being a strong,
independent female who does not necessarily need a man in her life to
be happy or successful. How many times does she need to hear Ryan say
he is focused on her and their life with Emma? My sneaking suspicions
are that Ryan will give into temptation, lust or whatever you want to
call it and give into any little twinge of feeling he has for
Greenlee, who will then flaunt it in front of Annie’s face. If that
does indeed happen, then I say Annie needs to kick Ryan to the curb
and stand on her own 2 feet and make a life for her and Emma.
However, I
would not necessarily count Greenlee as the winner yet. Whispers
across the Net are that Greenlee somehow gets her hands on Spike, the
two are involved in a car accident and as a result the little tot is
deaf. How will Kendall, Zach, and Ryan cope with this tragedy? My gut
feeling is that this will cause Ryan to turn his back on Greens,
reunite with Annie and kick off a potentially powerful and emotional
social issue storyline, if written correctly.
Then again,
this tragedy could cause Ryan to push both Annie and Greenlee out of
his life and into the arms of other dashing Pine Valley resident’s
waiting in the wings.
Aww there is
nothing like being torn between two lovers to really elevate the old
blood pressure now is there?

Comments: I must give kudos to the show for the following things.
First of all, kudos to whomever is writing the show recently and had
Greenlee mention and even talk to her first hubby, Leo DuPres. It is
good to see that she has not forgotten him. Secondly, it is good to
see Derek Frye and his sister Livia Cudahy getting some screen
time. Why does something tell me that perhaps Derek might have a
little somethin, somethin for Krystal Carey? Finally, what a GREAT
replay of AMC and character history, when Opal and Marian both entered
the Chandler mansion and Marian proclaimed, “anyone need a good
realtor.” The current Mrs. Stuart Chandler, was realtor extraordinaire
back in the glory days of AMC and it was nice to see the writers
mention that.
Well let me
hear your thoughts on the show this week. Do you think Annie should
just tell Ryan to take a hike or should she give him and their
marriage another chance? Who do you think the winner of Ryan’s heart
will be: Annie or Greenlee? Or do you think Ryan will throw in the
towel with both women and find someone new to occupy his time? Email

Hello my dears, I hope that you all
had a safe and wonderful July 4th holiday. This
writer did, sans eating some delicious food and almost having her nose
broken by her 4 year old nephew who decided to dive head first into
the pool and have her catch him. Unfortunately he missed his target,
the water and landed smack dab on the bridge of my nose, head
first……talk about seeing some stars and hearing the word OUCH!
Well as you all
cringe in pain at the thought of that situation, let’s see what many
of your fellow readers have said this week.
“I love the
idea of Erica working with the Chandler’s to help them get their
fortune back. Even though it seems as if she has accepted Zach as her
son-in-law, I would not mind seeing some friction between the
two…nothing that would ruin the mother/daughter relationship she has
going with Kendall, but something to make the situation a bit more
interesting. Perhaps Erica could find out that Zach slept with Hannah
to give her the baby she wants. Erica would see the similarity between
her daughter’s current situation and the one she was in once (both she
and Maria being seemingly pregnant with Dimitri’s child). Erica
certainly would not want to cause her daughter the same pain by outing
Zach, but she would still want him to pay for what he did. So she
would then join team Chandler along with Amanda Dillon and the
fearsome foursome would take Zach Slater head on.” Reader Harry

“Reading some
of the spoilers, it appears as if Spike is going to become deaf. Being
a mother of a 22 year old, young man, I wish the writers would let the
viewers see what these go through growing up without being able to
hear and not rushing through the storyline (ie. Spike is deaf, he gets
an operation and everything is hunky dory). My son was born deaf and
at the age of 10 he received a cochlear implant and at the same time
we found out he has a syndrome, where he may or may not lose his
eyesight. So if a soap opera could raise awareness about this, it
would be wonderful.” Reader M.S. in La via email.
