Wow, maybe I
should not have spoken so soon about wanting a new GH. When I said new, I
meant a new approach, some fresh ideas, some spreading of the screen time
wealth. It's something that we all want, yes? So when I first heard that the
team of Frank And Ron announced plans to move several OLTL actors over to Port
Charles, my first thought was, "What the eff are they doing?" GH already has a
cast roster that is stuffed to the gills, where are they going to put the new
people? Then I wondered, where the Manning's would fit in? I can see John
McBain coming to the police department since those guys are seriously inept,
but the Manning's? Then visions of sugarplums started dancing in my head.
Okay not
really, but I started imagining what would happen if we put Blair and Carly in
the same room. Blair would be kicking some Carly booty all over the place and
not one nail would get broken. What would Todd make of Sonny? Mincemeat,
people. Mincemeat. Todd is (or at least he was) more menacing, more twisted
and just out and out more nuts than Sonny could ever hope to be. Blair would
take one look at Carly and roll her eyes in a "Bitch, please!" fashion. Will
Michael and Starr be the new young tortured lovers? Well at least he'd be
dating someone his own age. I can hear Starr now: "Drama queen much?" In fact,
I can hear the Manning family's entire thought process regarding the Corinthos
clan: "You people think YOU'VE got problems??" It's actually kind of cool if
you think about it. But then we start hearing about more people from OLTL
possibly being brought over and that's when I start wondering if there's going
to be an invasion. Another thought that occurred to me was that Ron and Frank
had the idea in their heads to turn GH into OLTL. I'm hoping that my fears
(and the fears of many) are for nothing and that they remember that this IS GH
and it's GH's canvas and history that needs to be respected. As I pointed out
before, we already have a cast list that is only slightly shorter than the
yellow brick road. There is only so much airtime to go around and we've
already got the problem of the wealth not being shared as it is. I hope that
Frank and Ron prove us all wrong. I hope the OLTL characters can be woven into
the show in such a way that in only enhances already existing characters and
not take away from them.
Having said
that, it's also up to GH to trim some serious fat and cut loose what is not
working. I don't know who came up with this bore fest lady in white story but
show it the door - we're not interested. Why hasn't anyone questioned why this
chick and the new doctor are hanging around Nikolas' house? Shouldn't someone
toss them out on their ears for taking up residence in someone else's home? We
don't need Ewan or Lingerie Blonde, not while other long-time characters
languish away on the back burner. Oh, but they say, you have to bring in fresh
blood to amp things up a notch. Of course you do, and it actually works when
you do it well. This is not the case. Oh but we're bringing Helena back. So
what? Still not interested if she's going to do what she's done the last few
times she's returned, which was essentially nothing.
Sam is
freaking out because she thinks that the baby she is carrying might be
Franco's. There really is such a thing as a mind f*ck and that's what Franco
does better than anyone. All Sam has to do is go to the doctor and have tests
run to determine the conception date or as close to it as possible and voila!
Guess who's getting cards on Father's Day and his name ain't Franco? It
boggles the mind that Sam could think this kid could be anyone else's besides
Jason's, especially when Franco is essentially telling her that it's his all
of ten minutes after the supposed sexual assault that she's not even certain
had taken place. He's playing games like he always does, by riling you up and
fanning the flames of your biggest fears. I hope the next game Franco plays is
Russian Roulette and that he does it very well. I never want to see that freak
on this show ever again. Jason shoots Franco while Franco does his "I'm dying"
Oscar reel and keeps saying, "If you kill me, you'll never know the truth
about why I came into your life." We know the truth, weasel. You had the hots
for Jason. Now die already and never come back.
It also makes
no sense to me that Sonny and Kate are now a hot item. That happened way too
fast for me to even believe it, but it has to be written in the damn scrolls
somewhere that Sonny is not allowed to cross a room by himself without some
chick hanging on his arm. Maybe he should try casual dating? Naw, that
wouldn't work because Sonny tends to get too emotionally attached far too
quickly. The fact that the character of Kate bears no resemblance whatsoever
to the original description is not helping. We can't call foul or out of
character since we don't know this woman anyway. But I don't see Kate, as we
knew her, taking a sudden flying leap back into Sonny's arms after he dumped
her to hitch up with Claudia and she had moved on with Coleman. Oh then she
sees Coleman again and treats him like something that attached itself to the
bottom of her shoe, which also made no sense. I swear, she's not even coming
across as the love of Sonny's life or even the true love that can save him -
gawd, I hope that's not the angle GH was hoping for because it's not working.
I see her as just Sonny's latest mob moll, which doesn't exactly add up to
forever and til death do us part, ya know? So I don't see the need to devote
this huge amount of airtime to love scenes when I'm not seeing any love, or
even an attraction.
