Soaptown U.S.A. Asks Five Questions Of Your GH Favorites
MAURICE
BENARD

By:
Tom Stacy
Soaptown:
Does Sonny think Kate is “the one”:
Benard: Well,
you know,
Tom, I’m playing it like it is, and I’ve got to tell you, with somebody
who can deliver like [Kelly] delivers, it’s a shame if she wouldn’t be
the one.”
Soaptown: Are you surprised at how popular the character of Kate has
become with Kelly Sullivan in the role?
Benard: There weren’t too many [supporters] early on but now, it’s
really become something. I tell people when it became something was
this: right before they put her as Connie the crazy. I said this could
either be horribly wrong or incredibly right, and because of her
acting, she made it incredibly right. If that didn’t happen, we’d be
done. Her acting made people shut up.
Soaptown: Considering how they weathered
that crisis, the couple seems
to have even more rooting interesting now.
Benard: There you go. There’s that, too. I can’t wait for you to see
what’s coming up for them. I think you’re going to dig it. I dug it!
Soaptown: Who would you like to see come back for GH’s 50th Anniversary?
Benard: I want to see Vanessa [Marcil Giovinazzo, ex-Brenda] because….
she’s Vanessa. Ron [Hale, ex-Mike] would be good too, because I haven’t
seen him.
Soaptown: Do you think that ABC having a GH session at the TCA Press
Tour was a good sign?
Benard: With everything going on with GH, as far as the hype and how
the show is doing and how good it is and all that, I don’t think you
can cancel a show when it’s kicking ass. I don’t know why you would. I
think it would be counterproductive. I don’t think we’re going anywhere
for a while.
