Soaptown U.S.A. Asks Five Questions Of Your GH Favorites
Past and Present
ROBIN
MATTSON

By:
Tom Stacy
Soaptown USA: So, TV Guide’s Michael Logan gave you quite the
“Rave,” equating you as Daytime’s answer to Bette Davis — and deserving
of a supporting Emmy nod in 2013!
Robin
Mattson: Yes, I read it…. I was just happy with “incomparably
fantastic [laughs]!” I’m actually a big fan of Bette Davis. I admire
her work and have enjoyed it immensely, and being compared to her, I
consider to be a great compliment.
Soaptown: Was it awkward killing off Kodi Kitchen’s Maggie after just
meeting her?
Mattson: It was like doing a love scene with someone you’ve never met: “Hi, we’re going to be in bed and kissing very closely.” We may have
some clothes on, but it’s a strange experience nonetheless. She’s so
lovely and sweet and easy to work with. It was terrible.
Soaptown: Even though Anthony was dead, you and Bruce Weitz seemed to
have good chemistry.
Mattson: That was great. We were mutually disappointed that we didn’t
get the chance to do more together, but it didn’t matter because he
gave so much to the scenes. I can’t take credit for it. I wish I
could, but he was great at those little things that made the scene that
much funnier.
Soaptown: Was it amusing having Anthony Geary (Luke) tied up and at
Heather's mercy for so long?
Mattson: Tony and I go so far back that working with him is like
sliding into a comfortable shoe. We have so many memories and it was
just so much fun reminiscing. Initially, I didn’t have a lot of scenes
with Tony on the first run [1980-83] and then when I came back [in
2004], this obsession really started with wanting to marrying Luke and
capturing Laura but this time, his character was really wary, in terms
of the fact that she had been obsessed before but he thought, “Well, if
I’m just nice and I respect her and never rude….” Frank Valentini
[executive producer] mentioned that: “You’re never rude to Heather. You realize she’s very fragile and vulnerable and she truly cares for
you, so let’s hope she’s in a better place and let's not to anything to
piss her off.” Frank added his twist to what had already been started,
in terms of trying to placate her to avoid the extreme actions that he
knows she’s capable of. Of course, we know how well that worked out
[laughs].
Soaptown: Is there anyone from GH's past you’d love to see brought
back?
Mattson: Who better than Kin Shriner as Scotty Baldwin? Remember the
havoc they used to wreak in Port Charles? Kin and I have so much
history. There’s so much back story there, which I think could give
great depth and offer a different spin in terms of getting Heather out
of the trouble she’s gotten herself into.
Soaptown: Ok, we cheated with six questions, not five, but we have to
ask: Rumor has it we haven’t seen the last of Heather. Anything you
can tease?
Mattson: Keep her around, no matter how flimsy the excuse. That’s what
I say [laughs]. Actually, all I can say is, Heather is very
resourceful, so think what you might. It ain’t over ‘til it’s over.
