Yes, I am back. I profusely apologize for the lack of updates. A
bout with the flu was among the things that had me sitting on the
sidelines for the past few weeks. But fear not, it's back on!
Oh dear. Could Sonny be heading for the big house for reals? Yeah
right, but anyway, it's incredible how quick everyone is to extol
his many virtues and good points and why he doesn't deserve to be
behind bars. Are you people watching the same Sonny I have been
watching? Michael is quick to point out (as he always does) the fact
that Sonny is a good person and loves his children. But while Mikey
was saying all this, I kept recalling Sonny saying "This person had
to be eliminated," referring to the man that Dante was determined to
make Sonny pay for killing. I say Sonny isn't all kites and flowers,
and we know that. Sonny has a way of justifying his actions (like
killing people) by brushing it aside, saying that it was necessary.
It doesn't change the fact that it was still done and it's your
actions that caused it to happen. Maybe serving up some chili in the
prison chow line will finally make Sonny realize that it's not okay
to kill people. Whether or not they deserve to die is not for you or
I (or Sonny) to decide. You can point out that Sonny is going to bat
for Michael and taking the rap for him for Claudia's murder but I
still say the brat should have to pay the piper for his own actions.
We can see it as an act nobility for Sonny, or we can see it as
reinforcing Michael's belief that there are no real consequences for
the things you do, because this is simply "the life," and the way
things are.
Sonny wants to get to know Dante and Dante wants little to do
with him, and I can't say I blame Dante for feeling this way. Unlike
Sonny's other kids (except maybe Kristina), Dante hasn't had the
chance to put Sonny on a pedestal and think that the mob's way is
the only way there is. Sonny believes that Dante lied about his own
shooting to protect Sonny, but Sonny has to know that the
authorities have plenty of other dirt on him already. I also still
fail to see the reasons why Olivia kept Dante a secret from Sonny,
other than the obvious selfish ones. "He was already in love with my
cousin and I didn't want to give him the satisfaction," or some
other nonsense is what Olivia said. I could say I'm not buying it,
but what I really should say is, are you kidding me lady?
Then we have the now-toxic triangle of Liz, Lucky and Nikolas.
Liz has learned she is pregnant and couldn't stop herself from
trying to take a swan dive off the hospital roof. If I were in the
predicament she is in, the idea of jumping off a roof probably
would've occurred to me as well. Yes, Liz. It's another fine mess
you've gotten yourself into. She is fairly certain that the baby
daddy is Nikolas but to add to the fun, Lucky has decided to stand
by Liz. Okay, maybe Lucky shouldn't drink that stuff if it's going
to completely shut down his cognitive powers the way it does. We
have had plenty of insight to the way Lucky is feeling these days
but when I look at him, I see a little boy who looks like he just
got through cleaning the chimney. Jonathan Jackson is a good actor
and it's clear that they are writing scenes for him to show his
formidable talent. But he still looks like he's twelve and that's
kind of hard to overlook.
Anyway, Lucky wanted nothing to do with Liz after learning of her
affair with Nikolas and now, all of a sudden, he rushes to her side?
Either he's a glutton for punishment or... he's a glutton for
punishment. Why settle for possibly being second fiddle? It's pretty
clear to me that Liz has no freakin' clue who she loves or wants to
be with because it all keeps changing on a dime - you need a
scorecard to keep up with her. And what of the baby, what if Nikolas
really is the father? Once again, Lucky ends up being the odd man
out, the third wheel. Now Nikolas and Lucky have bonded over mutual
concern for Elizabeth, fearing that she is losing her marbles. It's
almost a replay of Laura/Luke/Scotty, but (thank God) we don't have
one obnoxious party declaring Liz for his very own and keeping
everyone else away from her. To really make things interesting,
however, we have the added joy of Helena and let's face it: Watching
her is like skating across black ice. You know an icy surprise is
coming, you just don't know when it's going to happen. "I'm
convinced you are carrying the Cassidine heir," she cackles to Liz.
I'm not even going to ask about Spencer because I'm pretty sure she
won't ask either.
