tense, future perfect, Part III, or The OLTL voters were not as united or as vocal as the GH ones, who overwhelmingly cried out for Skye & Jax or Jason & Elizabeth. Among scattered votes for contenders like Ben & Viki, Clint & Viki, Dorian & Mel, Jake & Megan, Kevin & Cassie, Cord & Tina, Marcie & Al, newcomers Jessica & Antonio, and even one vote for Dorian & Joey, two top couples emerged. And the runner-up couple was... Bo and Nora.
Other Bo & Nora fans remembered their faves’ rock’n’roll wedding with great fondness, and talked a lot about how right they seemed for each other, on a mature level of trust, caring and affection. “Just wanted to let you know that Bo and Nora have and will always be one of my all-time favorite couple of OLTL,” offers Candence. “The reason is that their romance was taken slow. When they realized they were falling in love with each other, they didn't rush off to bed to seal it. They waited a long time before they slept together. They had many things in common along with many things not in common. Fans that fell in love with Bo and Nora fell in love with them as they fell in love with each other. Fans of Bo and Nora got to go on dates with them. When they danced they were so in tune with each other and when they argued they still were in tune with each other. The main reason I fell in love with them was I got to see a pair of mature characters fall in love instead of a pair of teens. Bo and Nora were two people that enjoyed being around each other.”
I personally had mixed feelings about Todd and Tea, but I have to agree on one issue. Howarth and Lozano were both terrific actors with a lot of intelligence, intensity and commitment, and kudos to them for bringing alive a couple with a whole of baggage. Caroline also cites the Howarth/Lozano chemistry as well as the fact that Tea kept Todd honest. “I've been watching OLTL for about 20 years and the most intriguing couple I have seen is Todd and Tea,” Caroline says. “I always thought Todd was an interesting case, but it wasn't until his unique match with independent spitfire Tea that I really thought that the guy could be involved with someone and have it be real. I was relieved to see him in a relationship with a woman he respected and who he was honest with, and who was honest with him in return. I also loved how the show portrayed their relationship. It wasn't pretty and it wasn't easy, both of which were very realistic to Todd and how a relationship with him would be. Of course, the story wouldn't have been the same without the wonderful chemistry of Roger Howarth and Florencia Lozano, who tore it up on-screen. They infused Todd and Tea with such an angst-filled longing and major sexual tension that every scene with them was a surprise. It was great to see Todd finally with someone who was his equal in every way and who didn't let him get away with anything. In my opinion, they are one of the great star-crossed love stories OLTL has had in my 20 years of viewing.” When you have a character as dark as Todd, that no-nonsense element seems crucial to me, and I’m glad the TnT fans mentioned it. Somebody has to call him on the bad things he does and refuse to accept them. I had some doubts about whether Tea was that person, frankly, because there were points in their relationship where he got a little too ugly. But clearly the TnT fans were satisfied on that score, because they mentioned again and again that Tea held Todd to higher standards of behavior, and that was why they liked them together. Gina says, “I've been watching OLTL since the late 80's and have had many favorites, including Jake and Megan and Cord and Tina. But my all time favorite is Todd and Tea, which is amazing since they didn't always have the best writing, but the chemistry of the actors really sold the story. Todd and Tea are that yin/yang, star-crossed lovers who are just destined to be. Todd said he and Tea were born to be together and he couldn't be more right.” Yin/yang... Star-crossed... Some very nice images there, Gina. Also entertaining was Carol B’s take on Todd and Tea. For such a stormy and dramatic couple, I found it interesting that Carol went for a more comedic turn when talking about them. “Can you imagine Romeo without his Juliet?” she asks. “Mr. Steele without his Laura? Salt without its pepper? Just like these couples are immortal, Todd Manning is nothing without his Delgado! Never was a better acronym created for a better couple! TNT were/are/and will be DYNAMITE forever. They will remain not only my favorite OLTL couple but my favorite couple of all time through infinity and beyond!” Through infinity and beyond. And yet Buzz Lightyear was not in the couples she mentioned. Go figure! Thanks, “One Life” fans. It was fun taking a walk down Memory Lane as I read your responses, thinking about people like Mel and Tina and Megan again after all these years. Next week, on to “All My Children.” So many incredibly classic couples to choose from — Tara & Phil, Cliff & Nina, Jesse & Angie, Jeff & Mary, Nick & Ann, Ruth & Joe, Greg & Jenny... Wow. There’s some great romantic history in Pine Valley! Who will the fans choose as the couple they’d most like to see again? You may be surprised...
