My name is Nina Gregersen and I am the owner/publisher/editor of Soaptown USA.
If you haven’t figured out by now I am a soap junkie and love ALL of the ABC Daytime shows.
I was born in New York and raised in So California where I lived until I moved to Arizona with my husband and I presently reside.
I started designing web sites about 7 years ago when I met a Fan Club President
for a popular actor on GH and a friendship grew.
She invited me to my first GH Luncheon and introduced me to many of the GH actors she works with. It was heaven on earth for me. And from there many doors opened.
After designing sites for other people I decided it was time to do one of my own. My first attempt at going solo was “The Friends Of Brian Gaskill” which has become very near and dear to me.
From there I created Soaptown USA, which I started in 2002. I wanted to do a site about my favorite shows and couldn’t decide which one to do and ended up doing all of ABC.
I started getting feedback from the readers about the various shows and realized I needed help.
I had previously worked on a site where Coggie had been introduced to me and was my feature writer for General Hospital. After that site had closed down I asked Coggie if she would like to join me at Soaptown and write about GH. She was happy to join forces with me.
The site kept growing by leaps and bounds and on the Friends of Brian Gaskill site I came upon Max who was part of the OLFC club and was impressed by her style of writing. I asked if she would like to write a column for Port Charles on a weekly basis, and she agreed as well. 2 down and 3 to go!!!
Somewhere along the way I came across a message board and saw the writings of Soapboy, and loved the way he handled himself with the readers. So I asked him if he would like to write a “Gossip Column” for Soaptown, which he was more then happy to do. We created his own message board due to all the e-mails he was receiving and now the Steam Room has become one of Soaptown’s biggest draws.
At this point I had a 3 columnists and their features were becoming more popular each week.
I received e-mails asking about the other shows that were not being written about. And low and behold Soapboy came across Amanda who adored All My Children, we talked about her love of AMC and she offered to write about All My Children for Soaptown.
So here I had all but one show left to cover, when Soaptown received e-mail about one of the features from a reader about General Hospital. She introduced her self to me discussing an article about GH that Coggie had written. The way she presented herself was very impressive and I took it upon myself to go where no one else has gone before and asked if she watched OLTL and would consider coming on board. She explained to me she didn’t know if she would be able to do OLTL and told me how she writes for Harlequin Romances and we came up with the idea for her to write about couples currently on all the shows.
And that my friends, was how “Queen Of Hearts” was born.
The site started catching on and still no OLTL feature; I had put an ad on the front page “Help Wanted” Feature Writer for OLTL. One day I opened an e-mail by Mrs. Blondi von Slagdevic about OLTL. I had no idea who this person was but was thrilled with the way she wrote and I asked if I could add her to Soaptown’s list of columnists and she replied YES!!!.
She joined our little family and Soaptown was complete!!! Or So I thought.
But then something happened that threw me for a loop, people keep asking what about the other Daytime Dramas on CBS and NBC? At the Steamroom we added the other networks just for fun, but it became a overnight success and after discussing this with Soapboy, I decided to take a shot and see if there were any writers out there willing to do columns. And my first applicant was Jill, who does Crimson Corner and CBS had it's first feature. Jill was a bit green at writing but within 2 weeks her writing
ability and her dedication to Y&R and to Soaptown was amazing. To this day she still amazes me with her knowledge and dedication.
As the days went by I kept receiving sample columns for the other shows. By this time Port Charles had been canceled and Brian Gaskill moved over to Bold & The Beautiful. Who else to take over that spot but Max and her
seemingly hysterical musings. 2 down 4 to go.
Then Carol came on board with As The World Turns with a wit and energy that Soaptown was looking for. It appeared Soaptown was going to go all the way with all the daytime shows.
Along came Dawn, we had met at a GH function and we hit it off right away. Little did I know she was the same
person who applied for Days Of Our Lives. She reminded me about the GH weekend and I knew right then and there after reading her sample column she was the one for DOOL.
When Guiding Light was looking for a writer we had many many applicants, I was not sure if this show was THAT popular or if Soaptown was starting to become what I had
envisioned. When I received the Lightkeeper's first article I knew she was the one. When writing about GL she makes you realize why this show has been around for so long and
rightly so.
And when Passions became a reality Broomhilda was a dream come true. But did I know she had a twin sister lurking in the shadows? Boomhilda-1 was the older of the 2 by seconds and had
responsibilities that took her away from us after only 2 columns. But never one to leave you hanging, she sent us Broomhilda-2. And for that I am grateful.
And Soaptown now does ABC, CBS and NBC and thanks to you the readers it is complete!!!
