Any one buying any of this anymore? It’s harder and harder to stay hooked, the lines are tangled up in a story that has very little humanity left to it, and this whole vampire saga is sinking faster than a leaky rowboat – or has it already sunk? I’m tired of bitching for the third week in a row, really I am, and I’m sure you’re tired of reading about my bitching for the third week in a row. I’m tired of saying the same things over and over and over again. I’m at a loss here and try as I may, the only thing I’m actually looking forward to is the fact that next week marks the home stretch of DESIRE’s action, if you can call it that - only four more weeks left to sit through. Whether the next arc is any different or not at least there’s a chance it can be. At least there’s a chance for those talented writers to redeem the story, to give the incredibly talented actors material they can sink their teeth into (sorry, couldn’t resist). There’s hope PC’s world can be saved, there’s hope the characters can be saved from the one dimensional life they’re leading, there’s hope TPTB realized all vamps, all the time didn’t work so find a balance that does. Give each of our inhabitants of Port Charles an actual life that doesn’t just revolve around vampires, with actual conflicts that are born out of trying to forge their place in the world…you know as families, as lovers, exploring personal and emotional relationships and maybe solving a mystery or two along the way. But that’s for the next go round. For now, we still have DESIRE to contend with. There is no doubt a sea change occurred today, definitely signaling the beginning of a new scenario for our fab four, not to mention everyone else. A turning point in the story, such that it is, and considering Port Charles’ pattern of packing the last couple of weeks of an arc with enough action to make up for what ailed it the ten or so weeks before, my guess is as Rafe put it “things are going to happen pretty fast now”. With Alison’s kidnapping the focus is off Caleb as the pivot for conflict and on to Joshua completely and unequivocally. Finally. I had given up caring what our cave dwellers were doing, all that bonding didn’t fly anymore. While I did enjoy the four actors together, and Michael Easton, Kelly Monaco and Brian Gaskill have this amazing three way chemistry thing going that added a deeper dimension to the betrayals, none the less cabin fever had set in and it was time for a move. Nothing is following any kind of logical trajectory, but since it never does, at least it’s a change of scenery. At least Rafe’s desperation to save Alison will no doubt pull in as many characters as it can, giving them some sort of purpose I suppose and adding some relief to the current “I don’t trust you” saga. So much for enemies putting aside their differences to work together. The fab four actually did zip in that cave to help any situation. Now there’s a chance for that interesting drama that was touted at the beginning of this whole thing. Joshua is a riot, let’s see how Rafe and Caleb team up to bring him down while dealing with Livvie’s jealousy, their own jealousy of each other, a town full of vamps loyal to Joshua, characters who’ve been betrayed and manipulated, Ian who is rapidly falling prey to his needs, and Jamal, who at the moment is still a bit of an enigma. Is he truly firmly in Joshua’s camp or will his history with Alison let him save her after all. Since our slayer with that capital S hasn’t exactly saved anyone or anything will the job fall to Jamal. It certainly wasn’t a stellar week for love to put it mildly. None of our love birds can actually get together anymore and are pulling further and further away from each other – Ian can’t trust that the humanity in his heart will protect Lucy anymore, he’s afraid of biting her so out he moved. Livvie is more afraid than ever that she’ll lose control during their lovemaking and kill Caleb with her poisoned fangs, so no release for them. Rafe and Alison, no big surprise here, separated again, but since their relationship had taken a decidedly chilly turn of late I don’t think anyone was expecting fireworks anyways. Joshua didn’t exactly get what he bargained for as Alison played looney to distract him. How positively arrogant of Joshua anyways to imagine that Alison would come to him of her own free will, the giddy and happy bride. No, she’ll need an incentive to walk down that aisle. And since we can all pretty much predict the episodes without actually having to see them of late, I won’t bore you with details of a theory on what that incentive might be, I’m sure you all have the same one I do. Casey and Ricky, not that anyone cares, had to put the breaks on their little ring around the campfire lest Casey disappear back in the clouds. I do so hope this whole mess gets a helping hand from a little divine intervention by Rafe’s pop, maybe in the 11th hour of the arc. If for nothing else than to explain the reason why a useless angel hung around all this time. Better yet, have Ed yank Rafe back to heaven, tell him this was all a dream, they just discovered a memory chip implanted in his brain by a set of evil scribes, removal is scheduled, free pass forever reissued, and he’ll back on his way down to earth to resume his human life in just a sec ….can we please start over? I’m thinking end of NAKED EYES ish, beginning of SURRENDER ish would be a good point to return to. I wanna fall hook, line and sinker again. Don’t you. Email me musings@soaptownusa.com ![]()
