So you want to know something about me eh, not content to just read my musings and wonder who the hell does she thinks she is exactly… mumbling what does she know about Port Charles, let alone soaps. And you’d probably be right! But just in case, for those times when you say, hey she really nailed it this week, here goes….

Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, I graduated from university on the cusp of the Canadian film industry explosion with a degree in Communications, determined to be the next Pauline Kael or Alfred Hitchock. Spent several years working for an indie film house whose claim to fame was mild success in North America with a series of coming of age films set in a summer camp and major worldwide success with erotica and XXX films – guess which was more fun.

I’m a California girl now but my major Hollywood career as a movie critic, writing screenplays or producing films didn’t exactly, ah, pan out. I live within walking distance to the beach, driving distance to the ski slopes, corporate job which means I don’t always get to enjoy the beach or the slopes but means I can at least afford to live there, and am lucky enough to be able to indulge my creative side writing soap commentary and interviews for the fabulous SoaptownUSA site.

If truth be told I’d like nothing more than to be a ski bum in winter and a beach bum in summer, of course with my love of soaps and writing talents (no laughing) as a backdrop, but alas reality is such that this is what dreams are made of, sigh. Two winters ski bumming in the Canadian Rockies after college and 14 years of weekends on the slopes or the beach is as close as I’ve come.

A soap fan for more years than I care to admit I grew up watching Another World and Days of Our Lives but got hooked on General Hospital in college when it was the rage in every university on the continent. Through all the changes in my life, of which there have been many, soaps and writing, whether for myself or professionally, and I use that term loosely, were always a constant. I may not have always kept up religiously, but my trusty VCR made it possible to keep track day after day, year after year. I tuned in to the launch of Port Charles in prime time and have been a fan ever since. It was young and fresh, creative and innovative and based on couples and I thought it was the best 30 minutes on TV. Still do. Not since Another World have I been this crazy about a soap drama, willing to write about it, muse about it, interview actors about it, go to events about it….you get the picture.

How did I get to this state? Nina found me lusting after Port Charles on her OLFC site – we met, we clicked and the rest as they say…is history. My loving thanks to my pal Nina who got me involved in all this and to all of you, Port Charles fans, who read the column, visit the site and enjoy the fantasy.
