Salem is Burning

It's a sad day when behind the scenes controversy takes precedence over entertainment.

My apologies for promising an update for last week and then not delivering. After returning home from California, I had a record number of articles pertaining to that trip to write and in a record amount of time. I was, ahem! All typed out.

So now then. I have to confess. I have not been enjoying the show. Except for snippets of my beloved and cuddly Victor, there is nothing on the show that is really holding my attention, I'm sorry to say. I think Days is trying way too hard to sell me on this Chelsea/Dr. Surf Boy romance and, frankly, I'm not buying it. They've turned Phillip into a jackass and John into an even bigger jackass. Stefano is coming back and is going to relaunch a whole new reign of terror. Pardon me while I yawn and stretch. Sami misplaced her real personality some time ago. Trevor makes me cringe and the fact that he and Nicole are married only makes my case of heebie jeebies even worse. Is someone planning to liven things up around here?

It looks like what is happening behind the show is far bigger than what is on screen. Of course you all probably know the story by now since it's all over the internet. A huge, sordid power play that will undoubtedly leave the show in ruins. So far, we have only heard one side of the duplicitous tale (as of this writing) and I'm thinking when the fallout occurs, we should probably plan to be somewhere else. At this point, we don't even know for sure what is fact and what is fiction, we just know that Days is once again centered in backstage controversy. The bottom line is that if everyone did the job they signed up for and at least made the attempt to do it well, none of this would have happened. Producers need to produce, actors need to act and writers need to write. Simple as that. When that gets all mixed up, you have a complete disaster that only succeeds in eroding the foundation of the show and disillusioning the audience. Was it too much to ask for everyone involved with Days to do their part to simply try to put a good show on the air and keep it there?

I fear for the future of Days because, as we all know, changes in regimes are not easy to sit through and this show has been through more transitions than should be allowed. Every time it has happened, it has chipped away at the show little by little. If it keeps occurring, eventually the show is going to collapse. Sometimes I wonder if the best thing for Days right now is to take it out and shoot it. We've been strung along, lied to and made privy to backstage upheavals and it's costing the show viewers. No one deserves to constantly have the rug pulled out from under them like that. And because we seem to have too many chefs trying to bake the same cake, the result on the air is an uneven and unentertaining mess. This latest upheaval, if it is that, is something that frankly Days does not need right now with it's future still not officially in the bag.

I'm being told that there is more to this backstage story and I've got an almost alarming amount of curiosity as to what is going down or has already gone down. One thing is certain and that is that the fallout could make just about everybody look bad.
